Not long ago I was talking to a few pigeonfanciers. At one moment one of the guys said to me: “Name three things that pigeons can do and man cannot”. I only came to one answer: “Fly”. Then the man gave me all the answers: 1) Pigeons fly; 2) they can find the way back home without reading a roadmap, and 3) they can make love to three different hens without one of them yelling at him and throwing him out. At home I told the joke to my wife. She said if I were a female pigeon I would know which male to choose. I would prefer the strongest, healthiest and best looking male in the loft.
Michel Vanlint left Belgium for about 20 years because the Far East and the pigeon sport on the highest level called out for him. But we surely must respect him for what he achieved there. Nevertheless the bond with his home land was always there and for more than once a year he visited his Belgian friends. So at the end of 2002 he decided to come back to his roots and at the same time he bought a home in Zoutleeuw where he build a new loft. Many eyes directed to the colony of Michel. Would he be able to win after a break of 20 years in competition?
As it is March 15 in Holland, we start up with the preparations for the racing season. Our racing season starts at April 13 with races for old birds. We begin with races from 100 kilometres up to about 1200 kilometres. My 1 year-old pigeons all join the flight from Bergerac, and will cover a distance of 883 kilometres for me. Most of the times that presents no problems for these pigeons when they are in an excellent condition. The 2 years-old and older pigeons in my loft can go up to 1200 kilometres. From June we race with young pigeons. They mostly compete in about 10 races with each race ranging from 100 kilometres to 500 kilometres.

ARAD & TIMIS = 6197 PORUMBEI / 202 CRESCATORI. Vineri, 05.06.2009, la ora 07.20, de la Schaerding au fost lansati cei 6197 porumbei. Asa cum am aratat in articolul precedent, vremea arata sa fie de partea noastra, dar ceva s-a intamplat. Se pare ca brusc curentii de aer au inceput sa bata si din N si din S, si, va dati seama ce impact a putut sa aiba asupra porumbeiilor intalnirea curentilor. In Austria, a inceput sa ploua, apoi si in Ungaria, iar in Arad cel putin dimineata era doar innorat, iar apoi dupa ce au inceput sa apara primii porumbei, a inceput sa ploua destul de tare.
Miercuri 03.06.2009, judetele Arad si Timis au imbarcat porumbeii pentru cea de a doua etapa de fond din 2009, la Schaerding - Austria. O etapa care se anunta foarte disputata, mai ales aici in judetul Arad, unde orgoliile sunt foarte, foarte mari, unde concurenta este tot mai mare si acerba, si spun asta pentru ca, se vede prin modul de abordare a crescatorilor tot mai interesati de fiecare campionat, de fiecare etapa dintr-un sezon.
Sambata, 23.05.2009, ora 06.10 din Amstetten - Austria, s-a dat in sfarsit startul primei etape de fond din sezonul competitional 2009. Au fost lansati porumbeii judetelor ARAD si TIMIS, 8379 porumbei. Delegatul lansator al asociatie Arad, ne-a comunicat faptul ca porumbei au plecat excelent, timpul a fost bun, cer senin, 23-26*C, vantul a batut din WNW cu o medie de 16 km/h.
